I have been working with the Novoflex TrioPod tripod system for over ten years now, and in that time, hardly any other piece of equipment has served me so reliably. What began as an ‘interesting modular concept’ has become a true companion for me – whether travelling, in the studio, during macro shoots or outdoors in rough terrain. With over 40 years of experience in photography, I have gone through quite a few tripods. Usually, you notice that one leg is defective and have to buy a new tripod.

Not so with Novoflex, where you can replace just that single leg. All extendable legs have a foam rubber coating, which makes them more comfortable to handle in winter.
Modularity – initially a curiosity, now indispensable
What fascinated me right from the start was the modular design. I was able to put together exactly the combination I needed – and best of all, I can still do that today. Whether I need short legs for macro shots close to the ground, carbon legs for hiking or particularly stable versions for long exposures – I simply swap out the components. There are always places where tripods are not allowed, so walking sticks can be helpful because you can get anywhere with Nordic walking poles.
After ten years, I particularly notice how sustainable this concept is: I never had to buy a completely new tripod, but only had to add what was useful at the time.
Stability I can rely on
In practice, the TrioPod has never let me down. The legs offer different spread angles, which is invaluable on uneven ground. Especially with long exposures or when working with telephoto lenses, the system has often saved images that would not have been possible with other tripods.
Flexibility in everyday life
One of the reasons I've been using it for so long is that I can adapt the TrioPod to any situation.
- Table tripod or close to the ground for macro
- Large tripod for landscape and architecture
- Configuration with only one leg as a monopod replacement
- Outdoor variants such as hiking pole legs for tours
- With leg extensions as a high tripod
No matter how my photography has changed over the last ten years, the system has grown with me without any problems.

Robust – yet light enough
I use both aluminium and carbon legs. The carbon version is my favourite for travelling: light, yet extremely stable. The durability of the materials has impressed me time and again – even after many years of use, the legs and clamps still feel precise and reliable.
A few honest weaknesses
No system is perfect – not even the TrioPod.
- The modular variety can be a little overwhelming at first.
- It's not exactly cheap to buy, especially if you want several leg variants.
- And yes, changing the legs can sometimes take time when you need to move quickly.
But for me, the advantages have clearly outweighed the disadvantages for years.
My personal conclusion after a decade
After more than ten years of intensive use, I can say:
The Novoflex TrioPod was one of the best investments I ever made in my photography equipment. The combination of durability, stability, flexibility and sustainability has proven itself time and again in practice. For anyone looking for a tripod that grows with them, is durable and covers a wide range of applications, I can wholeheartedly recommend the TrioPod.
